The Move added to music favourites
Been catching up on a couple of missed movies this weekend.
GI Joe: Retribution in 3d
I’d like to start this review by saying something good about the film so, – the 3D was well done. Best attempt at making a movie actually feel 3D for a long time.
So, what do we have. Well, it’s a sequel to the 2009 movie the Rise of Cobra, however, of the heroes of that movie only one of them is in this movie (Unless you count Duke who dies early on) and that char doesn’t say a word and is hidden behind a visor so we don’t even know if it’s the same actor.
Some of the villains are the same, even one who I’m sure was killed in the first movie seems to have a major role.
Problems, well where to start. Lets start with the stilted dialog.
Or how about the script itself
For much of the movie it literally felt like a couple of kids playing with their action man toys. The story seemed to have been aimed at 6 to 12 years olds and might have served better as a Saturday morning cartoon.
Bruce Willis in another dog of a movie. Seriously Bruce get a better agent, your reputation as of late is going down the John.
I don’t think I want to spend any more time on this. Suffice it to say I had far too many problems with this movie than I can count.
Not one for the collection
Oblivion
I haven’t seen Tom Cruise in a movie since he went mad and danced naked around Oprah’s couch. (Okay maybe I’m remembering the naked bit wrong, but I didn’t actually see the incident)
I’ll admit I’ve never been too keen on his acting abilities. Usually his appearance in a trailer for a movie has been enough to keep me away.
Oblivion however sounded so interesting that My wife and I thought it was worth a try, especially when we had run out of other things to watch this weekend.
So, What did think?
Tom cruise still has acting problems, but he didn’t do too badly, there were only one or two places where the actor rather than the character appeared.
The story was slow going and borrowed a lot from other stories, but it had been mixed together in a blender to produce something new, not always original but a good plot nevertheless.
Regretfully it was predictable, but not to the extent that it ruined the story.
Not sure if I’ll add it to the collection any time soon, but it stands a better chance than GI Joe.

So first what did I think of the 3D
Well yep, it was in 3D, unfortunately it wasn’t very well done 3D. It feels as if it was made by people who don’t really understand 3D. Maybe it was made as a 2D and converted with one or two special 3D effects thrown in as reminders. Anyway, I don’t knock points off for bad 3D so I’m definitely not knocking them off for average 3D either.
What did I think?
It was an enjoyable plot. The character of Kirk actually makes the movie. I don’t mean I specifically enjoyed it because of the actor or the way Kirk was portrayed, I mean without his attitude the story doesn’t really work.
I’m a little uncertain about the massive warship. Unless it needs all that size to feed the huge guns, the ship feels too large. They say it uses a minimum crew, so it feels to me as if a lot of the ship is going to waste. Lets look at the hanger(where scotty runs to open the door) not perhaps In war this would be filled with heavily armed shuttles, in the movie though it’s empty and feels like a waste of space. Also the door to space is far to small for any shuttle to get thorough making me wonder what the purpose of the room is.
All in all though, an excellent movie.
