At a rough guess I spent about 8 hours on this today

I decdied to start from the beginning again just after lunch because up until then all I had written felt wrong. I was waffling and getting no where. Somehow restarting does seem to make a difference. The result was a lot better.

So far the chapter is only 8 pages long, about 2200 words, but it isn’t finished, I ran out of time for the day.I’m hoping I can stay on schedule and get the chapter finsihed and checked tomorrow.

 Chapter sevetny-nine is the eleventh chapter since October started. technically since it won’t be finsihed until tomorrow, that ten and a half. Not as good as last month’s twelve, but better than I expected when the month began.

Hopefully by December I’ll be well into the nigthies and the third section of the book when I’ll begin to wrap the story up.

Talking about the movie ‘In Time’ on Friday I mentioned The Price of Life.

It’s a short movie from 1987 and here it is for those of you who’d like to see it

It looks and feels a lot better than it did.

so what happens? The hero and his girlfriend posing as man and wife go to sleep at an inn. During the night a coule of thieves break into their room and get the shock of their lives

I had a little bit of fun with this chapter as the conversation between the two thieves is incorporated into the hero’s dream!

I’m currently estimating the second part of the story will end around chapter ninety, though this has more to do with the first part ended at chapter forty-five than how much story is left to tell before I get to my next stopping point.

The original chapter was the old chapter 48, if was fifteen pages and just over 4000 words long.

The new version of the same chapter is greatly smaller. Once again the story has taken a slightly different route. The hero is there with his girlfriend for one thing. The current length of the new version is 10 page 2653. I expect that will change tomorrow.

The premise of this movie seems to be pretty much the same as the premise for the short movie ‘The Price of Life’ basically Time is Money. It was a good movie even if it did follow the same basic formula of so many action movie before it. The hero who tries to do only good, with the cop who doesn’t care about justice, all that matters to him is the status quo.

In a way it felt like a modern day Bonnie and Clyde, the poor boy from the slums who’d never do any body any harm teeming up with the spoilt little rich girl who wants to live. There’s also a touch of Robin Hood, as the hero’s main aim is to try and turn the system on it’s head and to do this he has to distribute most of what he finds.

Problems? Well there was a contrived moment in the poker game. Playing Texas Hold ’em, I think very few people would have held on to 8,4 off suit. A straight is a good hand, but there are a lot of better hands out there and from the off the straight would have been the best he could hope for with those cards.(well okay there are a couple of better possibilities but 4/8 is still pretty awful), Added to the fact that it’s not even and open ended straight, the chance of him hitting the right three cards are very low (it’s not impossible) but i think few people would continue to play beyond the first bet, unless they were trying to bluff! It’s not a big problem but feels a little contrived. At least Bond in Casino Royale had 5,7 on suit, a much better straight chance and flush possibilites (but I degress)

I think I might also point out the girls make up that seemed to be totally immaculate regardless of the situation. She might not be immortal, but her eye-liner seemed to be.

In the end though, I thought it was an excellent movie, definitely one for the collection
